My background in HR

I’ve worked in HR my whole 40+ year career, I can even remember a time when it was called Personnel!

Nearly all of my career has been spent working with and for SME’s, so I understand how personal the relationship between a business owner and “your business” is. And what a privilege it is to work for SME clients.

My career has allowed me to work for a privately-owned HR consultancy providing a comprehensive range of people management services to primarily SME’s, and as a “first appointment” HR Director for a medium sized SME operating in the marketing services sector. For 25 years I have worked at Board level.

In 2017 I established my own HR consultancy, so I now have a first-hand appreciation of the challenges that a business owner faces.

I have been a Fellow of the CIPD since 2013 and I am a Committee Member of the Hertfordshire Branch of the CIPD where my particular area of interest is HR in SME’s in Hertfordshire.

What areas do I work in?

It was a career choice to work as a HR generalist rather than specialise in one area of HR. This has given me the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of people management, from recruitment to resignations and everything in between.

Whilst I still advise clients on the full range of HR matters, I mainly work in three areas.

Preparing ON BOARDING & INDUCTION plans for new hires.

Undertaking a HR VIEW that comprehensively reviews 16 HR areas.

Managing HR PROJECTS across a range of HR topics.

How do I work?

I use a three-stage approach in all the work I undertake:

  • The first action is to REVIEW
  • Then I’ll prepare a clear and concise REPORT
  • Finally, my client receives a report with an accompanying list of RECOMMENDATIONS

Hence the name Three R Consulting.

When can we meet?

I realise that sometimes it’s difficult to find the time during the working day to discuss HR matters.

That’s why I’m happy to meet with my clients at a time that suits them, either in the evening or at the weekend.

From experience I find that “out of hours” meetings are often the most productive because there is time to talk, to discuss possible solutions and agree a course of action.

Away from work

Most mornings and evenings I can be found in one of the many parks in Cheshunt walking my dog Jessie. Not only is it exercise, it also provides an opportunity to think. I’m a great believer that as many business solutions are found away from a desk as are found sitting behind one.

I enjoy holidays, as long as they involve a visit to Walt Disney World in Florida!
